New Batches of Flies Heading Out

We sent a couple of shipments of the forever-deadly Clouser Minnow pattern out today.

Clouser Minnow on Jig Hook

One shipment was a donation to the Texas Reel Recovery group of men who will be participating in the next North Texas event. PoP  is familiar with Texas Reel Recovery because he was a participant last year, and now was a good time to start giving back to the organization.

The other shipment was for a fly fisher east of Dallas who wanted to not just hook, but land hybrids near where he lives. He took PoP’s recommendation and went with the middle weight Clouser on a circle jig hook – black/black, chartreuse/white and the all-around red/white. That last one, the red over white worked to perfection for PoP late last week in a size #2 Mustad circle jig hook. Pop had been using the very expensive Tiemco 600SP, but after testing the circle hooks, PoP realized a new approach.

Instead of using the bone-piercing Tiemco, the only hook that will consistently stick inside the hard mouth of hybrids, PoP is finding that the circle hooks do exactly as advertised. They come all the way out and find the softness of the hybrid’s lips to STICK. It also helps that these are darn sharp hooks as well!
